What's up for discussion
Join an outstanding group of industry leaders as they debate the ESG data challenge and define the nature of good ESG data.
Despite its devastating effect across the globe, the COVID-19 crisis has been credited with reigniting our collective social conscience and with it, our interest in; environmental protection; fair and equitable treatment for all; good governance and long-term sustainability.
The term ESG has of course been mainstream for the last decade, with investor appetite taking greater account of sustainable value. Events of 2020 have accelerated that interest, with proven links between a company’s ESG performance and its profitability.
This has led to an explosion in demand for ESG data from Boards, investors and shareholders, lenders, employees and consumers. From a regulatory perspective, the EU Taxonomy on ESG is set to avalanche a raft of regulations and requirements on businesses. And, surely if anything defines ESG data in 2020 it has to be the rise of the ratings agency. Loved or hated, ratings are here to stay, and spilling over from indices on business performance are a growing number of new indices on everything from fashion to tourism.
Central to all of the above is the ESG holy grail of reporting, sharing, rating and analysis – high quality data, and as the quest grows more urgent, we ask ‘what does good ESG data look like’?
For the investor outside of environmental factors, what type of data will drive valuesbased investing?
For the asset manager how can ESG performance be quantified, using measurements that accurately reflect asset performance. Will managing complex portfolios with multiple ESG themes become too costly and time-intensive?
For the business – what value does a commitment to ESG bring? Is there an option not to get involved?
A short Briefing Paper will be circulated to speakers and registered participants on the topics that will be addressed. Its content will incorporate views, gathered by our research team, from leading industry participants.
The discussion will be delivered via Zoom webinar, with panellists joining remotely from their home offices. The panel will be visible to registered participants who will join via a dedicated web-link. Participants will have the opportunity to put questions to the panel in a closing Q&A session.
A White Paper will be published on outputs from the e-seminar discussion for circulation to ESG leaders .
